Kathryn Rea Smith, Ph.D. received her doctorate degree in counseling psychology from University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 1998. Dr.Smith completed her supervised postdoctoral hours in psychological assessment in a private practice setting in Knoxville. She has been licensed as a psychologist in Tennessee since November 1999 and she is a Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services certified forensic evaluator. She is board-certified in forensic psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP).

Since obtaining her doctorate, Dr. Smith has developed a specialty in forensic psychological assessment. She conducts psychological evaluations for the State of Tennessee’s Department of Disability Determination. She conducts court-ordered competency and criminal responsibility evaluations for Knox County from sessions, criminal, and juvenile courts by contract with Helen Ross McNabb Center. She serves as an expert witness and accepts Administrative Office of the Courts’ rates in cases involving indigent defendants. She provides consultation to psychologists and attorneys. She has testified as an expert witness in juvenile, criminal, and federal courts.

Dr. Smith is active in the Knoxville Area Psychological Association, having served as President of the Board from 2015-2016.
